Declan has always been an active and adventurous child, enjoying and exploring the great outdoors. When he was just four years old, he suddenly began experiencing unexplained bruising above his waist, leg pain, and consistent illness including fevers and extreme fatigue. His parents knew something wasn’t right when he unexpectedly fell asleep at school one day. His parents immediately took him to the emergency room where he was then diagnosed with leukemia.
“It was a very devastating diagnosis,” Declan’s mom Maria shared. “It was an extremely stressful three and a half years.” The next few years were spent in and out of hospitals, where Declan underwent many rounds of chemotherapy and multiple surgeries for bone marrow testing, insertion, and removal of catheters.
Today, Declan is in remission and fully recovered. He’s approaching two years from the end of his treatments. Declan’s excited to travel again and explore the beautiful island of Hawaii for his wish in mid-October. He’s most looking forward to swimming, snorkeling, and hiking, and learning more about his new interest in volcanoes. “[This trip] will bring us some closure to a very stressful time in our lives,” Maria shared.
We here at Mister Coffee Bodecker and Beans and Grind would like to thank you for being our customer and part of our community. We’re happy to announce that we’ve increased our contribution this year to “Make A Wish Canada” and took part in “Trees of Joy” event. This initiative grants wishes which have an extraordinary ability to touch lives, offering hope, joy, and support during medical challenges. With every Wish granted, children facing critical illnesses have an opportunity to experience the transformational magic of their wish coming true. Declan went to Hawaii.
Thanks so much for your support, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year from our family to yours.
